Want to make a satellite that will actually go into space? Well the Cubesat project is the project for you, starting off by making a tablesat (satellite just spread out on a table to test functionality) to a fully functioning satellite, this project will be looking for enthusiastic students focusing primarily in electronics with some structure design to ensure survivability in the harsh space environment. There is plenty to get involved in and open to all!

Mars Rover(Cassini)

Cassini Rover: We are a team if 14 people working on a rover that will compete on the UKSEDS Olympus Rover Trial. We are not just limited to this competition and aim to take part in other competitions as well as just raising awareness and knowledge to members of the society about the space robotics industry.

The go to electric propulsion thruster currently is the Hall Effect thruster the is dominating the market currently. What people don’t realise is that Southampton University is a leading contributor to its research! Southampton University has all the facilities including several vacuum chambers that we are allowed to use and test in which gives us the perfect opportunity to have a go for ourselves. Unfamiliar with how Electric propulsion works? Well don’t worry as we will be making tutorials to get everyone in the position where they feel they can contribute.

How does SpaceX’s Merlin engine and the Rocketdyne F-1 engine on Saturn V get such high power? Through the use of closed-cycle turbomachinery of course! SUSF is likely to be making a high power bi propellant rocket engine at 10s of K Newtons in the coming years and this will first start off with designing the heart of the engine’s feed system. This will also be open to all interested and is a must join if you are interested in high power propulsive systems.
