A CubeSat is a small, modular satellite built to a standardised form factor, designed to perform missions such as scientific research, Earth observation, or technology demonstration. The form factor is described as a 10cm cube '1U', our CubeSat is a 3U CubeSat and will consists of three standardised 1U units, providing a larger platform for integrating subsystems such as power, communications, onboard computing, attitude control, and a mission-specific payload, while retaining the low-cost and modular approach of CubeSat development.

The Satellite Design Competition challenges student teams to design and build a CubeSat prototype around a specific space-industry mission or theme. Previous examples include space debris detection and removal, lunar science, Earth observation and communication.
